For those of you who don’t have AdBlock installed, you may have noticed that the Google ads on this site have been replaced by CMF ads.
I did this for a couple reasons. First, I’ve only made $1.84 over the course of the month I’ve been displaying Google ads, and the minimum to cash out is $100. Now I know I just started the site, but it’ll take a long time to hit $100, even if my site traffic rises by an order of magnitude.
Second, my site isn’t really set up for Google ads to be useful. I don’t have a lot of text to which Google can match their targetted ads. Therefore, their mission to provide more relevant ads can’t very well be accomplished on my site—which leads to lower click-through rates and lower revenue anyway.
Third, Alan at The Thin Red Line (see my previous post) referred me to CMF, and it looked like a good idea.
CMF Ads represents a network of bloggers which advertise on each other’s sites. It’s very easy to reuse the advertising credits you receive when ads are placed on your site to place ads on other sites. You can use 100% of the credits to readvertise, actually. CMF only takes a cut when you cash out.
So CMF ads will likely provide more relevant ads just because it’s a smaller network of dedicated bloggers.
I hope this ends up being a win for everyone. If you’re interested in advertising on this site or others on the CMF network (it’s pretty cheap), sign up with the link in the title of this post. You can then search for Old Red Pen or click the link underneath the CMF ad box on my site.
